An influential equalities watchdog has launched a full scale review of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR), amid fears that coalition reforms undertaken as a result of the public spending squeeze could have a damaging impact on particular social groups.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission will put the Treasury's CSR decision-making under the spotlight over the next six months to consider whether the department has met its legal obligations to consider the impact of ministers' decisions on protected groups.
