DCLG blasts Rochdale in battle over tax rise

DCLG says Rochdale MBC is ‘disingenuous and wrong’ over claim it could oversee 3.5% council tax hike without triggering local vote.

The DCLG has said it is ‘disingenuous and wrong' for Rochdale MBC to claim the authority could increase council tax levels by 3.5% this year without triggering a vote by local taxpayers.

Local and national newspapers this week reported that Rochdale plans to use the Localism Act to exclude hikes to waste and transport bills from its headline-rate council tax increase.
