The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) lacks motivated staff and inspiring leadership, according to a recent performance review. The latest round of capability reviews of government departments, carried out by Whitehall, revealed the DCLG, Cabinet Office and the Department of Trade and Industry were failing to deliver effective services, motivate staff and provide good leadership. In the case of the DCLG, the review stated: ‘The department has work to do to strengthen its people management and take a more strategic and systematic approach to securing the right skills and direct frontline experience.'
