Penwith DC has pledged £10,000 towards Congleton BC's costs to challenge the recent High Court decision over reorganisation. The council is opposed to a single unitary council for Cornwall, believing it is ‘not the best solution' for the area. Congleton and Shrewsbury and Atcham BC's were the first two councils to challenge the reorganisation process. They were unsuccessful but are taking their cases to the Court of Appeal. Other councils in Cornwall, including Kerrier DC, have made similar monetary pledges, so that total costs are shared. Cllr John Fuller, leader of South Norfolk DC, has called a summit meeting of district councillors and all 119 parish council chairmen to discuss local government reorganisation. ‘There now appears to be an unseemly haste to press on with this reorganisation regardless of the state of public opinion, which we know is against,' he said. ‘Governance in Norfolk is at stake. That's why we're calling this summit so we can inform parish councils of what it might mean for all residents.'
