Councils have called for an inquiry after the Government disowned its own report into aircraft noise. The report, commissioned by former transport minister, Bob Ainsworth, was finally published this week, after protests from the 2m group of councils – a body representing two million people around London's Heathrow airport. The Government says the six-year study needs ‘further work', but it comes as the Government is due to launch its campaign for a third runway at Heathrow.
