The decision by government to abandon efforts to force a return to weekly bin collections is wise.In Bedfordshire we have made a success of the alternate weekly collections & recycling has shot up. My post bag has not contained a single complaint about the service for a very long time.Of course there are gripes about the number of bins each household has & there needs to be a refinement of the different systems in place across the UK, but the principle is sound.There is a recognition by many people that we cannot continue to dump many thousands of tons of waste in landfill & something had to change.I am old enough to remember having a single tin dustbin into which all household waste went - we now have many times the capacity of that bin available to us & I am not sure that is a good thing.So I congratulate Ministers for this bold & sensible announcement which reflects the majority view in local government.
