A former local government secretary under the last Labour Government has criticised the party's flagship £5.8bn Pride in Place programme.

Speaking at a webinar on policies for neighbourhood renewal today, John Denham said ‘central government never learns from the mistakes it's made previously' – including the New Deal for Communities, which was launched in 1998 under the Government of Prime Minister Tony Blair.
