The Government's drive to increase transparency is resulting in departments struggling to keep pace with a rising number of Freedom of Information (FoI) requests, latest figures indicate.

Statistics produced by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) reveal a total of 12,128 requests were made to departments of state and other public bodies in the first three months of 2011. This represents an 8% increase on the same time last year, and an 11% upturn since the previous quarter.
