DfE 'wastes £350m' on academies programme

A Parliamentary spending watchdog reported this week how the DfE wasted £350m on the academies programme.

The Department for Education (DfE) wasted £350m overseeing a two-year period of massive growth in the numbers of academy schools, a Parliamentary spending watchdog reported this week.

A Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report issued 23 April found £8.3bn was spent expanding the academies programme from April 2010 to March 2012.
