The Department for Transport is under fire from MPs,for failing to scrutinise how un-ringfenced transport cash is spent by councils.

The Department for Transport has come under fire from MPs this week, for failing to scrutinise how £1.2bn of un-ringfenced transport cash is spent by councils.

The Public Accounts Committee found councils currently spend £1.2bn a year of un-ringfenced money, but that is due to rise by a further £1.1bn over four years from 2015 under the devolution of major transport schemes.
