Wansbeck DC has issued a heartfelt plea to the soon-to-emerge Northumberland Unitary Council to keep the area's revival going. More than £33m has been secured for the Wansbeck district over a three-year period to 2011 to improve the quality of life and job prospects for local people. Wansbeck DC's deputy leader, Cllr David Ledger, said: ‘Wansbeck Council and our district have moved forward so far in recent years, always with the support of local people. ‘Now the new authority must maintain that impetus.' The new unitary council's chief executive, Steve Stewart, claimed the authority would start on a secure financial footing, despite the economic downturn. He said: ‘In the longer term, particularly when the property market picks up, Northumberland will be well-placed. We have all these assets and we are not going to just give them away.'
