Richmondshire and Hambleton DCs have revealed they will share a new chief executive, who they have named as Peter Simpson. The councils will also share three deputy chief executives – Tony Clark, Liz Smith and Phil Morton, and they will be supported by a shared assistant chief executive. Cllr Bill Glover, deputy leader of Richmondshire DC, said: ‘Sharing services and management arrangements will help us provide better value services for our residents, and we are looking forward to working with Hambleton to do just that.' Elsewhere, three local government stalwarts have become chief executives for the first time. Mike Dawson is the new chief executive at Tewkesbury BC. He is currently director for community with St Edmundsbury BC, and has been working in local government for 35 years. The council was assessed as ‘excellent' by the Audit Commission during his tenure. He said: ‘I am looking forward to joining the council and its partners in tackling the challenges.' In Scotland, David Dorward has been made chief executive at Dundee City Council. He is currently deputy chief executive (finance) and he will take over from current chief executive, Alex Stephen, when he retires in October. Mr Dorward's career began at Perth and Kinross Joint CC in 1971, before he moved to Tayside Regional Council during local government reorganisation in 1975. Tracey Lee is the new managing director at Newport City Council. Ms Lee joined the authority in 2008 as a director, and has led the young people and performance portfolio. She joined from Ipswich BC, where she was director for more than seven years. She said: ‘I am thrilled to be taking up this position and look forward to working with colleagues and partners across the city.'
