A name change could be on the cards for the Association of London Government (ALG). Its new chairman, Cllr Merrick Cockell, said: ‘When I say ALG to someone, I often spend five minutes explaining what it is. ‘This is a problem, and one which could be rectified by a name change, so this is what we may do. ‘London Councils would be an obvious choice.’ The ALG is also creating a new cross-party executive committee with 11 members, seven of them portfolio holders for areas such as public safety and older people.
