Councils could be wasting almost £150m a year on duplicate payments to suppliers – figures which betray ‘a lack of respect towards public money', communities secretary, Eric Pickles, has warned.
A CLG-endorsed examination of sample town hall accounts, published on 14 October, has exposed the extent to which authorities have incorrectly paid suppliers of goods and services in recent years.
