Government plans to build new ‘eco-towns' will fail, unless they are properly planned, have public support and are integrated with existing communities, according to the Campaign to Protect Rural England. Housing minister, Yvette Cooper, has announced a scheme to use citizens' juries to pick winning designs in a competition to build 10 eco-towns, but CPRE policy director, Neil Sinden, said: ‘Using citizens' juries is no substitute for consulting local communities on the need for, location and design of eco-towns through the established planning process.'
