Almost three-quarters of public sector employers believe failures in education have damaged the UK economy, according to new research.
A report commissioned by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), also discovered the public sector had a lack of confidence in the ability of young people, as nine in 10 managers stated the group needed more training before entering the workplace. School-leavers' management skills were described as poor or very poor by three-quarters of managers in the public sector. But the employers also stated they were keen to be at the centre of improvement in skills, with more than 90% agreeing they had a duty to develop skills for young people.
