Leading democracy campaigners warned this week, police and crime commissioner elections could 'degenerate into complete shambles'.

Police and crime commissioner (PCC) elections could ‘degenerate into a complete shambles' and ‘unfairly advantage' extremist candidates, leading democracy campaigners warned this week.

The Electoral Reform Society (ERS) predicted an18% turnout for the November elections, and warned that could benefit extremists. Katie Ghose, ERS chief executive, said: ‘The Government seems to have done everything to keep polling stations empty.'
