Local government employment has increased, but public sector pay has slumped to its lowest for a decade. Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed a decrease in public sector employment by 11,000 in the second quarter of 2007, but a rise of 3,000 in local government. But the statistics revealed pay had increased by just 2.7% in the three months to July.
