Employment support should be devolved to mayoral strategic authorities and Jobcentre Plus scrapped entirely, according to a report from think-tank Re:State.
The report said Britain's employment support system was failing with more than a million 16-24-year-olds not in education, employment or training.
London Councils' deputy chair Cllr Kam Rai said: ‘Moving away from a centralised system towards devolved support will be more responsive to local needs. London boroughs know our communities best, are closest to the people who need our help and are well placed to deliver improved results. With more devolution of powers and resources we would make faster progress supporting people into good-quality work.'
