Enthusiasm alone won't solve the NEET crisis

Addressing the crisis in youth unemployment may be a priority, says Heather Jameson. 'But when everything is a crisis and a priority, nothing is. It just becomes a long to-do list with a lack of funding to boot.'

There is a lot to admire about local government – despite the occasional fumble, faux pas and financial catastrophe. But most of all, it is the enthusiasm.

Despite drowning in missions, there is no doubt a plethora of council chiefs and leaders mulling their way through the initial findings of the Milburn review and preparing to step up action on getting young people Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) on to a career path.
