The Environment Agency must police waste contractors better to ensure waste is not dumped abroad illegally, the LGA has warned. Council leaders made the call after a TV documentary showed British waste contractors dumping recyclable material in Indian landfills. Cllr Paul Bettison, chairman of the LGA environment board, urged the Environment Agency to put pressure on these firms to act legally. The Environment Agency's head of waste Liz Parkes denied that it is the agency's responsibility to police waste contractors.
