Eric Pickles Desert Island Discs choices

The local government secretary's eclectic list.

Eric sets record straight MJ Towers is sad to report that, despite our best – and, frankly, shameless – efforts, Eric Pickles failed to use any of Diary's suggested song titles during his appearance on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs last weekend.

The local government secretary instead came up with a slightly more eclectic list, including music by Puccini, Mozart and Chris ‘Driving home for Christmas' Rea. Diary was particularly heartened to hear Eric pick a little-known live recording of ‘I take my chances' by one of his favourite songwriters, Mary Chapin Carpenter.
