Essex CC has won a High Court battle against the Department for Education over cuts to nursery school funding.
Mr Justice Mitting last week ruled that education secretary Michael Gove's failure to consult in June 2010, when demanding that the local authority review its spending, had breached equality laws. ‘This was an unusual step for the council to take, but we believed strongly that the rights of the county's children to have access to these facilities is worth campaigning for,' said council leader, Cllr Peter Martin.
