On further reflection I think there is an even more important issue about the speech that Jeremy Hunt gave at the King’s Fund last week than the one that I discussed on Monday.
The Secretary of State made a speech which was clearly intended to root out bad practice and improve the culture of caring. The one way of bringing this about that he mentioned is to involve CQC in publishing a simple method of differentiating good hospitals from bad. We don’t know yet what this might be but we know that it won’t be stars.
