Ministers have been warned against imposing more expensive, top-down performance indicators after it emerged millions was spent before a short-lived local government watchdog was scrapped. 

The MJ can reveal the Government has admitted the total spend on the Office for Local Government (Oflog) across 2023-24 and 2024-25 was £8.25m before Labour took the decision to close the Conservative project.
