The Birmingham City Council-owned NEC Group is set to start making money after forecasting a surplus of £7m. The group, which includes the National Exhibition Centre, National Indoor Arena and Symphony Hall, cost the council £2.9m last year. Chief operating officer, John Hornby, said: ‘With the new strategy and investment now in place, we are in a robust position to tackle the competitive nature of our markets in the future.’
