The prime minister will not invite all existing directly-elected mayors to join his ‘cabinet of mayors', despite low take-up of the leadership model through the recent spate of referendums, it has been confirmed.
David Cameron offered city mayors the chance to take part in a special cabinet – the first meeting of which he promised to chair – in the run-up to the referendums. However, following the polls on 3 May, only Bristol City Council opted to adopt a new mayoral model.
