Plans to reform the civil service are ‘flawed' and ‘feeble' – and Whitehall should learn from local government, according to two leading academics.

Writing in The MJ this week, Professors George Jones and John Stewart call on the Government to ‘think again' over plans to overhaul the way Whitehall staff operate. The pair suggest several attempts have been made to reform the civil service over the years, but they add: ‘The same themes are re-cooked, and radical change never occurs, stymied by lack of interest and civil service resistance.'
