Public finance experts have warned ministers could face further legal challenges over cuts to council budgets to fund academies.

Public finance experts have warned ministers could face further legal challenges over cuts to council budgets to fund the Government's controversial academies programme.

In its response to the Department for Education's (DfE) recent consultation on the academies funding-transfer scheme, CIPFA said the current plans – which could cost councils more than £1bn over the next two years – might leave remaining schools under local authority control ‘financially disadvantaged'.
