Welfare ministers are considering additional financial support for councils struggling to get administration systems ready for the introduction of strict benefit caps from next year, The MJ can reveal.

A Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) circular sent to local authority staff last month reveals news that many in the sector have been waiting for – that Whitehall is looking at how it could help town halls prepare for the £26,000 annual benefit cap for families from April 2013.
