Now for the fair funding fireworks

The Government has finally grasped the nettle of fair funding by producing a controversial draft set of plans which among other changes will benefit deprived areas at the expense of the wealthy. Michael Burton takes a look.

Last Friday, as the country was basking in 31ºC heat and local government's finest frontline service teams gathered for The MJ Awards, an important document slipped into the public domain.

While hardly a page-turner for the general public, the 126-page report from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has enormous implications for the local government sector, not to mention sparking political fireworks.
