As we all know, liberating stationery from the office cupboard and taking it home is a very bad thing and something no right thinking person would ever do. But having said that, many of us mayhave friends who have borrowed post-it notes, pens and notepads and, after suffering a random senior moment, failed to return them. Last week, staff at Essex CC were startled to receive an anonymous letter from someone, who wished to apologise for taking four envelopes from a council office in the late 1990s/early 2000s.‘Accordingly, I have attached £1.50 to cover the remittance of such, and I truly hope this will put my many years of guilt to bed and please forgive me for this unsolicited act of shame against your organisation,' the person wrote. And lo and behold, staff found three 50p pieces stuck to the letter. Fortunately, good sense has prevailed and Essex CC leader, Cllr Peter Finch, decided the money should go to Essex Air Ambulance's Flight for Life charity appeal instead. Jolly good show.
