Salary costs at Fenland DC have risen by 57% in just five years, according to figures released by the council following a freedom of information request. The wages bill for the current financial year is expected to total some £16.127m – an increase of more than £5m compared with the total for 2002-03. But Fenland's chief accountant, Mark Saunders, said that council staff numbers rose by 76 to 719 over the same period and the salary increase also reflected completion of job-evaluation scheme.
