Britain's local authorities are eagerly awaiting a final decision on whether they will receive coveted ‘preferred creditor' status from Iceland's collapsed banks.

Iceland's Supreme Court will make the long-awaited decision – which will affect more than 120 English authorities – after hearing evidence in a second case, involving the collapse of the Glitnir bank, on 26 September.
