The leader of Portsmouth City Council, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, this week ruled out rescuing Portsmouth FC from its current financial woes.

Cllr Vernon-Jackson said the council had estimated it would cost around £37m to save the troubled club – which entered administration last month for the second time in two years – and added there would not be sufficient public support among local residents.
