Council finance chiefs should take responsibility for reducing the complexity of their annual accounts, the Audit Commission has reported.
The spending watchdog issued a briefing entitled Let's be clear on 18 January, following complaints that the recent sector-wide move to international financial reporting status (IFRS) had rendered local authority accounts both too difficult for public understanding and too burdensome for officers to compile.
