Financial incentives 'needed' to tackle fraud

A survey suggests three-quarters of civil servants believe government departments should be given financial incentives to tackle fraud.

Up to three-quarters of civil servants believe government departments should be given direct financial incentives to tackle fraud and error, a survey has suggested in the wake of official figures estimating that fraud costs the UK £73bn a year.

Whitehall officials in both lower and senior positions have reported they believe departments would be more motivated to tackle fraud and error if the Exchequer allowed organisations to recoup a portion of the money saved.
