As local residents prepare for the anniversary of Cumbria's floods – and the tragic death of local PC Bill Parker – the leader of the county council has praised the ‘gargantuan effort' to restore the damaged area and rebuild communities.

Speaking before the formal anniversary of the floods on 19 November, Cllr Eddie Martin said: ‘The floods brought an immense amount of damage – both physical and emotional – but everyone who has seen the way communities have responded has been impressed and humbled by the strength of spirit here.'
