Voters believe they should be forced by councils to take action on climate change, according to a new poll. The survey, carried out by ComRes for the LGA, looked at public attitudes towards global warming, and the role local authorities should play in tackling it. Results showed 56% of respondents thought councils should force people to take action on climate change. And 64% felt local authorities should introduce financial incentive schemes to encourage people to reduce greenhouse gases. LGA environment board chairman, Cllr Paul Bettison, said: ‘The British public are concerned about global warming and believe this should be a priority for local councils.'
