Regional government will be vital in finding solutions to climate change and asylum, according to EU leaders. More than 7,000 visitors from 213 authorities across the EU, including the UK, attended last week's annual regions and cities ‘open days' event in Brussels, organised by the Committee of the Regions and the EC's regional policy department. The aim was for cities and regions, through some 120 seminars, to share ideas on EU policy such as climate change or asylum-seekers which are common to local government across the EU. The event coincided with a plenary session of the Committee of the Regions debates on climate change and economic development.
