Almost four in 10 councils are planning to keep their Sure Start children’s centres open in 2011-12, according to a new survey by 4Children.

Almost four in 10 councils are planning to keep their Sure Start children's centres open in 2011-12, according to a new survey by 4Children.

The national children's charity found that 39% of local authorities surveyed would definitely keep the centres open for the next year, while a further 19% said they had, at present, ‘no plans' to close them.
