Local government experts have called for councils to be handed greater control over procurement and spending designed to tackle the problem of youngsters not in employment, education or training (Neets).

After a comprehensive study last week revealed one-quarter of young people in some English towns and cities were now considered Neet, the Local Government Association (LGA) called for more freedom for councils to address local problems.
