Council employers and trade unions have described as ‘amicable' and ‘progressive' fresh talks aimed at tackling the rising cost of town hall pensions.

Employers and union leaders met last week to discuss potential reforms to the £140bn Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), aimed at ensuring the sector retains a sustainable retirement plan which remains attractive to future employees.
