The North-South divide deepens as a new survey shows relationships with families and friends depend on where you live. People in the North see their families and speak to their neighbours more than people in the South, according to a report published by the Northern Rock Foundation and North East Social Capital Forum, and prepared by the Institute for Public Policy Research North. In the North East, 62 % of people meet up with relatives at least once a week, compared with just 35% in London. The report recommends local authorities make social capital – people's personal relationships and networks – a central plank of local area agreements (LAAs).
