The leader of St Helens MBC, Marie Rimmer, has slated government plans to cut council tax benefit as ‘morally outrageous', and warned that it would hit up to 13,000 local households.

‘Relatively less-prosperous areas such as St Helens will stand to lose out financially under these changes, while more prosperous regions of the country will be largely protected,' said Cllr Rimmer.
