Future Vision, the Leadership Centre's flagship leadership development programme, is now launched and Cohort 1 is mid-way through its 2013 course. The 3 component parts of Future Vision (the annual cohort drawn from across the public sector, Local Vision based on place & Alumni Vision) are all designed to improve the skills required by public sector leaders as they seek to collaborate, share and aggregate services in localities. The truly cross-sectoral nature of the programme is evidenced by the attendees on Cohort 1 - including Fire, Police, Local Government, Treasury, Public Health, Foreign Office, 3rd Sector Housing and the Private Sector.Future Vision is not intended to replace existing or developing development programmes within sectors, those will continue in health, local government and in the Civil Service through CS Learning, who we met last week.Uniquely Future Vision brings together the most senior people from, primarily, those parts of government that deliver services in places and by using some of the best academic brains available we work through what System Leadership looks like.We are delighted with the level of engagement by the wider public sector & our private sector launch partners - BT, EC Harris and PWC.Out of my meetings with Civil Service Learning came an interesting thought - most public servants focus on doing a good job within the sector that employs them. Very few have the opportunity to develop leadership skills across different sectors.Future Vision is designed to bring together Director Generals, Chief Executives, Politicians, Police & Crime Commissioners, Chief Constables who are highly regarded by their Peers and provide insight into the different cultures and practices of often disparate organisations. The most positive engagement has been with health, via Public Health England and the NHS Leadership Academy, who have provided incredible support and engagement. We are also developing the alumni programme into a meaningful and purposeful series of annual events is important, with our next event at BT Tower in October, where alumni from the legacy programmes (Leeds Castle & Vital Vision) will meet the emerging alumni from Future Vision.www.localleadership.gov.uk
