Peterborough City Council is pioneering a project to tackle youth crime and gang culture. The scheme will train a group of 16 young people to act as mediators to prevent or diffuse conflicts between people from different parts of the city, and is backed by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Peterborough Racial Equality Council and local community safety teams. Chief Supt Paul Philipson said: βIt has the potential to make a really positive impact on community safety and cohesion.'
