Ministers responded to recent flooding across England and Wales by providing an extra £120m for defence schemes – but questions remain about the Government's long-term ability to protect communities and infrastructure.

Half of the extra money is targeted at areas where flooding holds back economic growth. The rest will go towards dozens of schemes flagged as priorities by the Environment Agency, but delayed by the Government.
