The Department for Constitutional Affairs has announced a £21m Revenue Support Grant boost to ensure councils fully implement the new Electoral Administration Act. Elections minister, Bridget Prentice, said it was essential the funding went to electoral service staff to ‘fulfil their new duties to the best of their ability, and maintain high standards of professionalism'. The Act will improve access and engagement through ‘increased and innovative efforts to make the best-possible use of the electoral register', and will introduce deterrents in the fight against fraud.
