More than £33m has been given to councils by the Scottish Executive to fund recycling projects in the latest round of government grants. The strategic waste fund (SWF) was set up six years ago to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Under the SWF, Edinburgh City Council has received £9.75m and Glasgow City Council has received £5.31m in 2005/6. All Scottish councils are able to submit bids for cash awards from the scheme.
